New Year’s Resolution
An R.L. Mathewson Chronicle
“Water…,” Trevor whispered weakly as he held out a trembling hand towards the bottle of water on the nightstand.
Zoe ran her hungry gaze over her husband’s incredible body, licking her lips and contemplating starting things up again, but the little whimper he made to get her attention had her sighing in resignation and handed the lukewarm water over to her husband that she was almost sixty percent sure wasn’t dying. When he struggled to open the cap off the bottle, she took the bottle and opened it for him, and did her best to ignore the tingling sense of guilt stabbing at her conscience when he flinched from her touch.
Trying to give him a reassuring smile, she handed the water over to him only to have him watch her every move like a hawk until she couldn’t help but roll her eyes and shake her head in disgust. She’d already decided to let him rest, hadn’t she? Men could be such babies sometimes, she thought as she grabbed his discarded shirt and pulled it on, deciding to go downstairs and rearrange the kitchen, again. After a quick glance at the clock to see that it was only a little past two in the morning she realized that she would also have time to refold all the towels and sheets in the house before taking a power walk down to the bakery to get the kids freshly baked bagels for breakfast.
Maybe she’d have time to wash the car, she thought as she went downstairs and headed straight for the coffee pot. As she made herself a quick pot of coffee she couldn’t help but smile. This diet was going really well. Better than she could have ever hoped for. She was exercising more, had more energy than she knew what to do with, and her house had never been cleaner!
The only downside was that she wasn’t sleeping, but that was fine. She’d sleep eventually, but for right now she was going to enjoy herself. She poured herself an extra large cup of coffee, slowly blew on it for a moment as she gazed around her immaculate kitchen and decided to add a few shots of espresso to her coffee for flavor.
It was so good! she thought with a giddy little smile as she took her first sip of the highly caffeinated beverage.
Maybe she should get an expresso machine?
Maybe she should build one!
Yes, that was definitely the way to go she thought as she took another sip of coffee, absently wondering when she’d stopped blinking. As finished her first cup of the morning and quickly poured herself another cup, she decided to go back upstairs and ask Trevor if he could help her get her hands on a welding torch. As she rounded the corner she couldn’t help but wonder if he’d recovered from their last four-hour marathon of sex, because she could really go for more.
When she walked into their bedroom and found him sprawled out on their bed, naked and looking particularly handsome at this time of night, she couldn’t help but smile.
“Oh, god no…,” he whispered hoarsely when he spotted her standing there, making her bite back a sigh of disappointment.
It looked like she was on her own with that welding torch, but that was okay, because she was sure that she could figure it out, she thought, instantly perking up as she turned right back around and headed downstairs, deciding that she should probably make herself another pot of that delicious coffee to keep her going.
God, she loved coffee.
