The Naughty Chronicles
“This was a bad idea,” Jason muttered as he continued looking through the peephole while Haley stood there, rubbing the bridge of her nose, wondering why she wasn’t more surprised that her husband had finally lost his mind.
“Are you talking to me or the door?” Haley asked, deciding that it would be in her best interest to clarify that now so that they didn’t end up in the same situation when she made the mistake of talking to him when he was looking under the bed.
“We need to leave,” Jason said, nodding to himself.
“Why do we need to leave?” she asked, dropping down on the king-sized bed that they should be putting to good use.
“Because he’s out there,” Jason said, once again nodding to himself only to suddenly stop and ask, “Did you hear that?”
“The voices in your head?” Haley asked, sighing heavily as she sat there, wondering if they should just call it a night, but…
The kids were in good hands and they didn’t have to be home until tomorrow morning thanks to Trevor, who’d volunteered to spend the night after a disturbing phone call from Cole where he’d mumbled in coherently for five minutes about Sebastian being in the house. Once she’d managed to calm him down, she’d asked to speak to Sebastian, but since Cole had refused to leave the safety of the locked closet, she’d decided that it would be a good idea to call in reinforcements.
Maybe they should call it a night and go home, Haley thought even as she couldn’t help but notice just how comfortable this bed was. It would be a shame to waste this room, Haley thought as she glanced around the room, taking in the room service menu on the nightstand, the large whirlpool tub in the corner, and the large flat screen television that was going to waste. Definitely a shame, Haley thought as she reached over and grabbed the menu and settled in more comfortably against the pillows.
“Do you see his truck in the parking lot?” Jason asked, sounding somewhat hysterical while Haley debated between getting a burger and a steak.
“Whose truck?” Haley murmured absently as she decided on the steak and moved onto dessert.
“My father’s,” Jason said, cursing as he quickly made his way across the hotel room, stumbled over a chair and-
“I know he’s here,” Jason bit out as Haley reached for the phone.
“Why would he be here?” Haley asked, deciding that she should probably order one of every dessert.
“Revenge,” Jason said, yanking the heavy curtain aside and glared out toward the parking lot.
“That does seem like a valid reason,” she absently murmured in agreement in between giving her order and wondering if this was hereditary. Probably, Haley thought as she finished giving her order. It definitely explained a few things, she thought, watching as Jason raced back across the room and returned to his peephole.
“I think Sebastian and Mikey broke Cole’s will to live,” Haley said as she glanced at that large tub waiting for her in the corner and debated taking a bath before the food came.
Nodding again, Jason said, “We’ve gotta get out of here.”
And leave the comfort of this hotel room before she got to put the tub to good use? No, that just wouldn’t work for her. “You know what? You’re right,” Haley said, nodding in agreement as she climbed off the bed and stretched. “You go first and that way, we can throw him off and make our escape.”
Shaking his head, Jason said, “That’s what he would expect.”
“Not if I take my time,” Haley said, heading towards the tub as she pulled her clothes off and-
“What the hell are you doing?” Jason demanded, suddenly there, grabbing her clothes and shoving them back in her arms.
“I’m doing my part to throw him off,” Haley said, shoving her clothes back in his hands and climbed into the tub, turning it on as she went and settled back with a satisfied sigh.
“This isn’t a game, woman!” Jason hissed as he threw a paranoid look back towards the door.
“No, no, of course, it isn’t,” Haley murmured in agreement.
“He’s out there!” he snapped, gesturing frantically towards the door.
Nodding, Haley said, “And I’m in here naked and there’s no one around to interrupt us this time.”
