Dear Aspiring Writers,
Over the past year I’ve received a great deal of email from aspiring writers asking for advice on publishing. They’ve asked about the pros and cons of going the traditional route as well as inquired about self-publishing. While I’ve tried to take the time to answer their questions and help guide them in the right direction, I’m afraid that it’s not enough. I wish that I could do more to help you. At some point when I master this industry and have some time I plan on writing an e-book to help those of you who would like help, but that will not be happening for a very long time.
I didn’t feel right about not at least trying to find a way to help. So, I took some time and did some research to find a publishing house, advice website, anything that could help with the daunting task of getting published whether it was through a publisher or through self-publishing. It took me some time, but I found a website that actually offers all the services that authors need at a decent price.
Let me just state this before you continue to read this page. I do not and will not accept paid advertisement on my website. If I list a link to a website that’s because I like the site. I would not feel right about promoting anything that I did not like and will not do it. The site that I am recommending has not paid me and does not have a contract with me. I will be giving them their own page because so many aspiring writers contact me, asking for advice and this seems like the most reasonable and efficient way to get this information out there. With that said, my recommendation for anyone interested in publishing the non-traditional way is:
WHAT IS BOOKRHYTHM?
BookRhythm was designed to give authors the opportunity to control their own publishing future by offering a one stop service oriented place to handle all of your self-publishing needs. Authors want to write. Authors need time to write. We have the skilled professionals to handle every bit of the minutia that goes along with self publishing. From ISBN’s to copy editing and formatting, we will handle the technical details to get your book out there. We can even build, host, maintain and update your website.
BookRhythm’s owner and original parent company has been on the forefront of cutting edge entertainment technology for decades and we take pride in always being available for our clients. Your service will always be personable and timely. We consider our clients as business partners, and we share in the joy of your success.
We’re artistic, organized, and sometimes a little bit quirky. We believe work should be fun, and we believe in under-promising and over-delivering.
We also really hate those computerized phone systems so rest assured, you’re never going to have to deal with that. You will always have a real person that cares about your success, available to you.
As to cost? It varies, as we know there is no “One Size Fits All” scenario. Bundle some services together, or just utilize us for one service. It is always up to you, because first and foremost, it is YOUR business. Let’s just talk and brainstorm as to what your needs are.
A few easy to understand things about what we can do.
- Author Wranglers’ (aka PA’s)
We have indeed been asked if “wrangling” an author is like herding cats. Sometimes. LOL What our wranglers do is whatever the author requires to assure more time for doing what they do best- WRITING! We can handle your generic emails, take care of your calendar, proofread, set up guest blogs and reviews, maintain your social media sites, promo, promo, promo. Why we will even set you up with someone that will ask you for daily word counts and tell you when to get to the gym. What do YOU need to have taken care of so you can write? Send out SWAG or signed books to contest winners? Can do! Be a sounding board when you are overwhelmed. Yes, we can be that too. We will always make sure your wrangler is a fan of your writing first. If you write thrillers, we have thriller loving wranglers. Paranormal, Urban Fantasy, Erotic Romance? All of the above. We want you to write, write, write and have someone that loves your books to make sure your name is out there. We probably won’t fetch your coffee though, and we will never lie to you and tell you how great you are just to tell you that. We love books. We will give you good feedback you can use. If you want a coffee fetching with your tongue bath ask your BFF.
- ISBN assignment
You need one. We have a multitude ways to get that accomplished. We purchase them in bulk.
- Content Editing
Content editing is a more comprehensive partnership between author and editor to address stylistic elements such as concept, tone, characterization, and organization. We will also cover intended word use and genre-specific conventions. We focus on improving sentence structure, and we will ask you questions, as well as give feedback. If we think your manuscript might need a little restructuring for the flow of the story you are wanting to tell, we will give you that feedback as well.
- Copyediting
With copyediting we address the technical elements such as grammar, spelling, punctuation and consistency.
Combining the above two elements, we will work with you to insure you are getting your intended story telling across to your desired audience by reading as a fan, as well as an editor.
We developed our methods of editing through experience with both first time authors as well as accomplished New York published authors. We pass your work through at minimum two editors and proofreaders.
- Formatting
Formatting can be for just the electronic book market, for print, or for both. We can provide all structures of formats for any e-reader.
Interior design for a print market is also available, and we can work with your cover artist to insure that page count is correct making sure your cover is perfect.
- Distribution
Some authors want to self-publish do not want to appear to be self-published. Does that sound confusing? It’s as simple as this: You want your book out there, but you do not want it to have your name as the publisher, nor do you want it to have the name of where you got your ISBN as the publisher. In other words, you want a “Vanity” publisher. BookRhythm can “be your publisher.” We can provide the ISBN that says BookRhythm is the publisher, load your best seller to Amazon, B&N, Are, Smashwords, and even other book selling sites including BookRhythm’s and just provide you with your sales reports and you sit back and collect the money. All rights of course are still yours. (Details in our service agreement). We just handle that. If you want us to. Your call.
- Website Creation, Hosting & Support
We can do that too. No “GoPapa” SPAM. We have a real software company here in the background that does this for a host of other things and it came to our attention that some authors had no idea which way to go and they wanted a more important email address than a gmail or a yahoo one and we said, “We can do that. We’ve been doing that for businesses for years.” We have creative people that can work with you to design it, set up your emails, and your Wrangler can easily post your updates to it.
- Marketing/Online Support
If you do not want a Wrangler, but want marketing and promotion support for a release, we can tailor that as well. We can advise you on your Facebook page, your Twitter feed, your LinkedIn account and your existent website. We can devote a set of time to setting up virtual appearances, promo shout outs and blog tours and ads. Trust us though, you’ll want a Wrangler.
- Promotional Items
We are lucky enough to have a fabulous promotion company in the building right next to us that can do anything from bookmarks, to postcards to pins and buttons or t-shirts or anything else you can dream up. We also have several “go to artists” to make sure these items are designed to catch attention and make people remember you.
Hopefully, we have covered most of what we can do and love to do every day. If you have any questions you can call us Monday through Friday 9:00- 4:00 PDT at 253-857-6471. Or you can head to the BookRhythm site and sign up. It’s free, it’s easy and there is no obligation of any kind. The info is just for us to get you talking to the person best suited to your needs. Or email us at Scoop@BookRhythm.com.
We do not answer the office telephone on the weekends. We’re reading. HOWEVER- you will have access to your Wrangler if you have one, because deadlines have no days off.
