Mathewson Chronicle “We’re playing pretty Disney princesses and that’s final!” his normally sane father-in-law snapped at Bryce as the other man continued to sit there, pouting. “I called dibs on the Ariel tiara,” Bryce grumbled as he adjusted his Disney princess teacup on the small saucer in front of him. “My baby girl wanted it!” his father-in-law snapped seconds before he turned to face Connor’s little girl and smiled as he picked up his teacup, pinky finger up of course, and proceeded to take a small, dainty sip of his pretend tea, →

Mathewson Chronicle (My early Christmas gift to you) “Enjoy,” Zoe said with flourish as she placed another platter on the coffee table in front of them. With one last smile, she walked away, leaving them sitting there, staring at an assortment of what appeared to be stuffed mushrooms, deviled eggs, mini éclairs, fudge, onion dip and a big bowl of potato chips. Since they were pretty sure that the chips were safe, they all reached for the bowl. “Ow! Share, you greedy bastard!” he snapped at his father, who’d →
“We are not putting the kids’ presents in trash bags!” Zoe hissed, throwing their bedroom door another nervous glance.
“Why not?” he asked, grabbing a handful of comforter and pulling it up so that he could look underneath the bed. When he didn’t spot any children or listening devices he dropped the comforter and moved on to the rest of their room, looking for recording devices.
“Because I’m not leaving trash bags in front of the tree on Christmas morning for my children!” Zoe hissed as she slowly unlocked their bedroom door, opened it and stuck her head outside. When she didn’t spot any children lingering outside their room, she quietly shut the door and locked it.
“You’re spoiling those kids,” he said, shaking his head in disgust as he moved to check their bathroom.
“Because I want to wrap their presents?”

Mathewson “Tell me again why we’re going to this thing,” Trevor said, rubbing his hands roughly down his face as he sat there, praying that someone, anyone would call him with an emergency that would save him from having to go to this thing. “Because it’s going to be fun,” Zoe said cheerfully for the benefit of their children who were all sitting in the back glaring at their mother for making them do this. “I didn’t want to say anything, but,” Sebastian started to say only to pause with a heavy sigh, →

Mathewson Chronicle “You have no one to blame but yourselves,” Megan bit out as she glared down at the three men slumped on the couch. “Weak,” Sebastian said with a disgusted snort and a shake of his head as he walked past them on his way back upstairs where the rest of the children were playing Monopoly. “So weak.” Haley bit back a smile as Jason glared at the boy. “You wouldn’t have said that if you’d tasted that chicken!” he snapped at the boy. Sebastian paused by →
“What’s the name of the restaurant, sweetheart?”
“Will you make sure that I get to cook Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner?” she asked, watching his expression through narrowed eyes.
He opened his mouth, but abruptly shut it and shook his head. “I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.”
“Okay,” she said, nodding thoughtfully. “I understand.”
“You do?” he asked, sounding surprised and for good reason.
She’d never given up this easily before.
She wasn’t exactly giving up now.
This is what’s going on over at my Facebook page. If we can get 200 people to donate at least one nonperishable item before Thanksgiving I will post a large teaser from the next Neighbor from Hell novel, The Game Plan. You don’t need a picture, but what I am asking is that if you promise to donate to help make sure that a family doesn’t go hungry this Thanksgiving that you follow through with it. That’s all. If this sounds like something that you’d like to help with, please donate an item and then head on over to my FB and comment on the pinned post. Thank you in advance 🙂 R.L.
